Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the points lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to avoid just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th place, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
